Edurne will represent Spain in Eurovision 2015 with the song Amanecer (Daybreak).
A whole month has passed since “sources close to TVE” announced already that Spain would have a female representative this year.
Those sources affirmed that TVE had received about 20 candidates from various record labels. Among them only 6 were reasonably famous to be chosen internally : Sergio Dalma (Spain 1991), David Civera (Spain 2001), Diana Navarro, Raúl Gómez (winner of the talent show Número 1), and, of course, Edurne.

(Spain 1991)
David Civera – Dile que la quiero
(Spain 2001)
Diana Navarro – Mira lo que te has perdio
Raul Gómez – Under Your Skin
Well no… Edurne García Almagro, aka Edurne, is the one we’ll see on May 23rd in Vienna. And, surprise, this year even the song will be chosen internally… Since 2000, 2006 is the only year with no national final at all – and let’s be honnest Las Ketchup and their Bloody Mary were dreadful. Hopefully this year won’t be such a disaster…

Edurne will sing Amanecer (Daybreak) in Spanish. The song is described as a quality pop song, a style we never heard yet for Spain at Eurovision.
Well known names for eurofans are behind the song. The Spanish Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson and the Swedish Thomas G:Son and Peter Boström. The first two wrote the Spanish songs of 2007 (I love you mi vida) and 2012 (Quédate conmigo) but also a lot of entries for the Spanish national final, the last one being Más / Run for Brequette in 2014… Peter Boström is co-author, along with Thomas G:Son of hits like Euphoria – it’s no small achievement.

Even if Edurne was still a child when she joined the band Trastos, she was indeed discovered by the Spanish public through Operación Triunfo 4 (aired by Telecinco and thus not related to Eurovision anymore at that time) where she finished 6th. Soraya (Spain 2009) finished second that same year.
After this program, Edurne released her first album in 2006, which included the hit Amores Dormidos (OMG, I love this song so much!!!). Since then she recorded 4 albums more (the last one, Climax , in 2013) and 12 singles. The 13th one will be her Eurovision song Amanecer and will be included in the album she’s currently recording with Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson.

Edurne – Ven Por Mi (2007)
Edurne – Soy Como Soy (2010)
Edurne – Pretty Boy (2013)
To tell the truth, the Edurne’s last albums have not been huge successes. Therefore she has also taken part in the musical Grease (as Sandy), and worked as a TV actress, presenter, model… But if she still is in the run, it is mainly thanks to TV shows as Más que baile (2nd in 2010) or Tu cara me suena (1st in 2014).
Possibly TVE noticed her in this last program, where she proved that she can sing everything – really everything – but also that she can dance and act… Because singing Andalusian folklore of Marifé de Triana when you come from Madrid, it must not be an easy task… Dancing and singing like Beyonce neither… Look at these videos a verify it yourself :

(Tu Cara Me Suena)
To conclude, Edurne has not the amazing voice of Pastora Soler, but she is doing very well ! I’m looking forward to the song, but I think we can be optimistic. Edurne confirmed she’ll take care over every detail of her coming act (and we know that Tony Sánchez can do it…). Another TOP 10 or a Soraya-2 ? Answer in 3 or 4 weeks, when the song Amanecer will be unveiled. Can not wait !…
